1. i took my first midterm today, and i am rather confident that i utterly failed. i did not know that i would be expected to construct the Hawaiian islands with nothing but pen, paper, and pitifully inadequate artistic ability. My representation of the Hawaiian islands (that would be 8 faceless blobs)will probably offend my Hawaiian Studies teacher immensely, since it is so poorly drawn. At the moment, i am quite worried about what i received on that test, but at least i don't have to study Hawaiian Studies for today.
2. My favorite subject so far is Japanese. Not really surprising, but i kind of wish that i enjoyed my business classes a bit more (eg- Macroeconomics). Unfortunately, economics does not inspire me on a day to day basis (actually, it never inspires me). However, studying it so much has diseased my mind to some extent. i can't always separate the economics from my other subjects of study. Even when i study my religion notes, i can't help but wonder how the various determinants of change in demand are the causes for the suffering which Siddartha Gautama escaped through his composition of the Eightfold path. He had a thorough grasp on the reality of how everything that exists is in a constant state of depreciation, which is the source for our constant suffering and enslavement to our mindless, consumer-driven lives. Anyway.
3. Sadly, my dorm room is currently occupied by many rotting fruits. i can't tell when fruits are ripe--i can only tell when they are rotten. This is why i am always afraid to eat fruits, since i am unsure of whether or not they would be pleasing to my taste buds. Therefore, my fear of eating unripe fruit leads to the very unripe/rotten status to which my sweet groceries belong. This would be what sociologists might call "self-fulfilling prophecy." i fear that the fruits are unripe, therefore they become unripe. Thank W.I. Thomas for your definitions of the situation. Without your mind-blowing subjective definition of the situation, i never would have been able to reach the conclusion that all things defined as real are real in their consequences. My browning bananas are a testament to your extraordinary knowledge.
4. For some reason, i can never think about anything without relating it to school. i find that sad for many reasons. It's just that my personality is such a one that is prone to obsession, hence the mindless education-induced drivel.
5. i really like boys, but i think they really don't like me. Or maybe my command of the English language is so faulty to the extent that it completely falls apart--abandons ship--upon realizing that it is in the presence of someone belonging to the male sex (not gender, since gender is the psychological/social aspects that are often associated with biological sex). This suits me at the moment though, since i am fully convinced that college freshman boys are severely lacking in any redeeming qualities.
6. Going to concerts is what i do. i wish it could be my job, since i love nothing more than experiencing live music.
7. However, i strongly dislike standing in crowds filled with pushy high school girls. After seeing The Maine and Forever the Sickest Kids in concert, i deduced that i am much too old to be pushed around by high school girls who are bigger than me. Next time, i'm waiting in line from 8 in the morning.
8. Spicy ahi, shrimp tempura, salmon musubis, and Naked juice are my current addictions. Thank goodness for UH Campus Center!
9. My favorite part about being in college is having more free time to read. This is probably a very nerdy trait, but it's true. Reading is one of my joys in life. Currently, i'm reading Me Talk Pretty One Day. i wish i had a little more time to read it though, since exams are creeping up like zombies with ninja-like performance capabilities.
10. i really want to read World War Z (book about apocalyptic zombie war) by Max Brooks. Why, you ask? Well, one reason is that my beloved The Devil Wears Prada (band) recently came out with an EP titled Zombies. Secondly, a former member of Brighten said he was reading it, so i have to read it (ah, the influence of guys in bands on my consumer expenditures...just watch that GDP rise!)
11. The concept of nominal versus real GDP is something that i find to be rather unpleasant. i do not like how there is more than one GDP. i also do not like how there is more than one method to calculate GDP, both of which have tendencies to be rather confusing due to their many exceptions and no-no's (eg- don't do this or it's GNP, foo. Or, they're supposed to be equal but they're not due to statistical discrepancy, which you must include in your calculation of GDP by income approach, but certainly not by expenditure approach. Duh.). Why must one calculate GDP if it doesn't even have one definite answer or reliable method of calculation? If there are that many variables in the calculation process (as well as such massive room for hideous errors), why bother? i know, i know. Reality must be rationalized in this way or life is simply not livable.
That's the end of my rant for now.
