Literature Survey

So...
Mrs. Tenney did this literature survey on facebook. It looked fun, so i thought i'd try it!

1) What author do you own the most books by?
JK Rowling. That's something i'm not exactly proud of...i just don't own that many books, and sadly, most of my bookshelf contains a little over half the Harry Potter series (which i've only read once).

2) What book do you own the most copies of?
Jane Eyre--i have two copies (the Reader's Digest edition...and the lame one i received from HBA for last summer's required reading)

3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions?
Surprisingly, i didn't even notice!

4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
Well, if i wrote it down, i wouldn't be secretly in love with him anymore. Besides, i don't think i was ever secretly in love with him--i've been rather straightforward with my affections for the one and only Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

5) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children; i.e., Goodnight Moon does not count)?
The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old?
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen

7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year?
The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. Synopsis: World War I veteran's genitals mysteriously destroyed in war. No one will marry him due to aforementioned event. He hops bars in the company of a prostitute with bad teeth, a woman who would love him if aforementioned event hadn't happened, and a friend who he despises. They later watch bull fights in Spain.

How this is one of the best books in the English language truly puzzles me.

8) What is the best book you've read in the past year?
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See

9) If you could force everyone you tagged to read one book, what would it be?
The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. Everyone needs to know that he's never alone.

10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature?
Me, or someone just as cool as me. Just kidding. Definitely Dave Eggers.

11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie?
Most of my favorite books have already been made into movies, or shouldn't be made into movies.

12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie?
Probably any of my favorite books that have not yet been made into movies.

13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character.
i can't recall a dream i had with either of those...but i did have a dream about dating a Communist photographer last night (no lie!)

14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult?
Firstly, i'm not an adult. Secondly, i don't know what lowbrow even means. i'll just assume it's a book that i thought was poorly written/executed (?). In that case, it's definitely Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.

15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read?
This could be interpreted two ways.
Way #1) Most difficult to understand: The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. i've yet to complete it!
Way #2) Most difficult to finish reading due to lame plot or some other related element: Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift.

16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen?
Unfortunately, i haven't seen any Shakespeare plays! That makes me a truly deprived individual. i think i will see a very weird Shakespeare play soon--I Hate Shakespeare--my school's spring drama in which, incidentally, i am playing a zombie!

17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians?
Me likey the Tolstoy. So Russians it is!

18) Roth or Updike?

19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers?
EGGERS! One of my favorite writers, no doubt.

20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer?
Most certainly the Bard.

21) Austen or Eliot?
AUSTEN! If we had lived in the same time, in the same place, we would have been kindred spirits, i believe.

22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading?
Perhaps this is a bad thing, but i'm not embarrassed of not having read any particular book.

23) What is your favorite novel?
The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

24) Play?
Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare, but i'd say it's a tie with Hamlet.

25) Poem?
If lyrics are poetry, UnderOATH are the masters of poetry.

26) Essay?
Nothing written by Virginia Woolf. My friends are the best essayists i've read to date.

27) Short story?
Can't think of one... :P

28) Work of nonfiction?
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

29) Who is your favorite writer?
Jane Austen

30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
i don't really think anyone is overrated...

31) What is your desert island book?
Complete Collection of William Shakespeare and a King James Bible <--this is Mrs. Tenney's answer and i must say that i love her selection! It's not so much that i lack originality, but this is quite the premium desert island book listing!

32) And... what are you reading right now?
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. It's awesome.
